Background

 First Popda families arrived in the UK and settled in Walsall in the mid-1950’s. The Popda Society was founded in 1958, the Founding Members were:

• Adam Mohammed (Mala)
• Ahmed Hasan Ravat (64 Camden Street)
• Yusuf Muhammed Ravat (Gabru Dada) 
• Ebrahim Fakir Ravat (Patel Dada)
• Ebrahim Mala (later moved to Blackburn) 

This generation had very little funds but were committed to maintain the Popda village.  Whatever spare savings these elders could muster, they would pool their funds and send back to Popda to maintain the masjid and the key community services in the village

As more family members arrived in the UK, the Popda Society grew.  The majority of the families settled in Walsall but members also placed roots to take up employment opportunities in Batley, Blackburn etc.
